1973 MG-B Mark II/III Roadster - "Precious"

This Classic 1973 MG-B Roadster was manufactured and marketed by the British Motor Corporation (BMC), later British Leyland.

No, this is not a mid-life crisis car (I’m past that)... Actually, I wasn’t even looking for another vehicle when I first saw it. This is how it went down:

I was filling my wife’s car and this drop-dead gorgeous redhead pulled up on the other side of the pump. It had been years since I had seen one and it was love at first sight. After a few minutes I peered around the corner and (somewhat jokingly) asked the driver if he would be interested in selling it. He said no, which I expected, but then said “but I have another just like it”... Turns out that he had retired and had been looking to buy one having had one in college. After a 3 year search he found the one he sold to me. Not knowing that he had found one a friend of his called and said that he had found a car he must look at. He bought that one too! Identical except for drive train. Mine has OD which he now regrets selling to me (18GH c.1969)... On the night bringing it home I was asked if I wanted to sell it!! We really enjoy all the thumbs-up and horn honks we get while driving along. So many stop to ask questions about it.

Having purchased it in November, 2018 I spent the winter months gutting the interior. All new carpet, vinyl, seat (covers) and LED's all but the headlamps. In time I also got the speedometer (odometer only showed 56 miles on it when I bought it!) and gas gauges working!

I purchased the front plate for three reasons: (1) I wanted an authentic British plate for the front; (2) “AGO” (I work for the Attorney General’s Office); and (3) “B” for obvious reasons. Luckily I found it online and snatched it up! Interesting fact from an Instagram follower: “This number plate was first registered in Carlisle in Cumberland in the U.K. in 1964”. [You can see more on my Instagram page: #mr2cool4u2].

Since the purchase the best part has been being a member of this club with its many awesome members. Ya'll have been so willing and helpful when I had a technical issue. In-person, phone calls, and via email. I have learned a lot about this car with its unique requirements (how does a carb. work anyway? I've rebuilt mine so now I know). So much to learn, and an awesome hobby!

My wife and I enjoy traveling the State in this classic with the top down of course! She doesn't mind this "mistress" ;) she is Precious to both of us.

Lastly, what’s not cool about driving around in a “Horseless Carriage”?   - N.C.G.S. §20‑63(b1)(d).

I thought about this for quite some time, and left it for last... Before reading other votes I would never have voted for myself, but seeing some that did, well fair is fair... Also, just too many beauts in this group! What would we have done if even half of those that normally would be at the show registered on this virtual show??? This was hard enough! ;)

A HUGE shout-out to Justin for all his hard work putting this on our website. Hopefully we can keep it as a special club "show that just had to go on" despite the current circumstances. The donations generated for the NC Food Bank will be surely appreciated.  Thanks to all the entrants!
