In 1966 while I was in high school, I saw for the first time what I still believe to be one of the best looking cars ever made, the MGB GT. Finally in 2011 I was able to purchase my 1974 and a half GT. The 74.5 GT was really supposed to be a 1975 but when MG could not meet the EPA requirements for 1975 they sold 75s produced in late 74 as 74.5s from September 74 through December. The 74.5 is the only Rubber Bumper GT imported and sold by MG in the US and is relative rare, with only 1248 making their way here in those few months.
Mine came to me restored in great condition, but I still had to make a few changes to have it the way I wanted. Wire wheels were ditched in favor of bolt on mag wheels, the seats where reupholstered in leather, the rear seat was removed and a storage area fabricated in its place. It already had air conditioning but in order to be able to maintain a comfortable temperature, it is a bit of a green house, the windows were tinted.
Since buying the car with 7000 miles on the clock, we have run it up to 73000 miles, while traveling over a good portion of the US and some of Canada. We are looking forward to many more journeys when the country gets back to normal.
